Gavin Annon, Belfast Chamber President said:
“The prolonged absence of a Programme for Government has created a damaging sense of drift in Northern Ireland, therefore its publication is a welcome and necessary step forward. While it is encouraging to see targets set for key areas such as social and affordable housing and healthcare waiting lists, the lack of focus on critical infrastructure is a significant concern.
“The plan is titled ‘Doing What Matters Most’, yet Belfast Chamber believes the economy should be given more focus and greater investment must be directed towards major infrastructure projects that will support Belfast’s regeneration and long-term growth. Urgent work is needed to improve our public spaces, utilities, and transport networks – essential foundations for attracting private investment, improving living standards and ensuring our capital city thrives.
“Persistent underinvestment in these areas has hindered economic growth. Belfast Chamber will continue to work closely with all key stakeholders to ensure our business community’s voice is heard and that the most effective decisions are made to unlock Belfast’s full potential.”
