PeacePlayers Northern Ireland (NI) is a Charity that was founded in 2002 in response to the region’s longstanding history of division and conflict. We offer a transformative platform for young people from diverse backgrounds – Catholic, Protestant, and others – to come together, not just as teammates, but as advocates for reconciliation and a shared society. Our programs are designed to cultivate empathy, understanding, and resilience, equipping participants to transcend historical divisions and work toward a more inclusive future.
Each year, PeacePlayers NI engages over 1,500 young people, aged 9 to 25, through a combination of year-round and multi-year programs. These initiatives incorporate basketball training, conflict resolution education, and leadership development. The sport itself serves as a universal language, breaking through cultural and social barriers, while structured workshops and activities help participants learn essential skills for navigating conflict and embracing diversity.
