At BT we’re using our know-how and expertise to support Northern Ireland’s businesses and public sector organisations on their digital transformation journey.
We play a big role in the economic and social life of Northern Ireland. As one of Northern Ireland’s largest investors and employers, we currently support more than 7,200 jobs locally and have helped to generate £655 million total GVA in Northern Ireland. We are at the forefront of driving technological change, securing the UK’s digital infrastructure with investments of £632m in innovation.
We are proud to be the most digitally connected region in the UK with more than 80% of premises now having access to full fibre broadband. As we continue to expand our full fibre network, we’re busy connecting people and businesses – creating a network that’s ready for the future and phasing out old, legacy technologies.
Following a successful UK-first trial of 5G technology by BT and Belfast Harbour, a landmark partnership is delivering a series of 5G-led innovations to accelerate Belfast Harbour’s ambition to become the world’s best regional smart port. We will be working with the Harbour and other partners on an autonomous vehicle trial, providing advanced connectivity through our 5G network as well as security expertise and innovation. This could see some very exciting and ground-breaking developments for our city.
As part of our continued commitment to Northern Ireland, we’ve also recently opened a multi-million pound refurbishment of our flagship Belfast office, Riverside Tower. Belfast is a strategic and long-term location for BT in the future. With a capacity for approximately 2,000 colleagues, the new modern building provides a wonderful place for our colleagues to work and to thrive in as we continue to do the best for our customers.
As part of our investment and commitment in Northern Ireland, we also recently expanded our cyber presence, opening a new state of the art cyber Security Operations Centre (SOC) in our flagship Belfast building.
Our innovations are connecting people, businesses, public services and communities in ways not previously possible.
