Primark opens new store
Belfast Chamber President Rajesh Rana attended the opening of the new Primark store at Commonwealth House on 12 December. The four-storey premises, covering 26,700sqft, are located behind Bank Buildings which was devasted by a fire on 28th August 2018.
This opening will be followed by a second Primark store which will be located in the former New Look unit in Donegall Place. Set to open in April 2019, this will provide a presence for the retailer on the main retail thoroughfare of the city. New Look is set to close on 15 January with the loss of 70 jobs.
President of Belfast Chamber, Rajesh Rana, said,
We are sympathetic to the New Look employees who will lose their jobs, but hopefully they will find alternative employment as the city recovers from the Bank Buildings fire. The two new Primark stores, along with openings in Castlecourt of Matalan and Vila, and the continuing growth of cafes and the evening economy, points to a positive outlook for the city centre.
