Belfast Chamber and Better Gym Launch Partnership
Belfast Chamber, the Voice for Business in Belfast, has announced a partnership with GLL, the charitable social enterprise that operates Better gyms and leisure centres across Belfast. The new campaign is aimed at improving the physical and mental wellbeing of the Belfast workforce by providing all members with a complimentary pass for use in one of the 13 city-wide facilities.
Better Gym, a Belfast Chamber member, has a mission to get more people, more active, more often by giving communities access to facilities that help improve their health and happiness through participation in activities. As a charitable social enterprise, and a ‘not for profit organisation’ they invest and ‘give back’ to local communities, which extends to the local business community.
The new partnership will see Better provide all Belfast Chamber members with a free gym session or a free swim in any of their 13 facilities across Belfast.
Speaking about the partnership, Michael Stewart, President of Belfast Chamber said: “There has never been a more important time to focus on the wellbeing of ourselves and our workforce.
“Physical and mental wellness is the most important thing we all have in our toolkit in the fight against Covid-19.
“As gyms are forced to cancel classes for the next few weeks and many people staying at home and sitting down more than we usually do, it’s hard for a lot of us to do the sort of exercise we normally do.
“But at a time like this, it’s very important for people of all ages and abilities to be as active as possible.
“We are delighted to announce this partnership with Better Gyms, who operate 13 centres across the city, one of which is here Belfast City Centre – on High Street – and a further 12 spread across all areas of the city from Connswater to Boucher.
Michael concluded: “We are encouraging as many business owners, managers and their staff to avail of this complimentary pass and to start to use gyms like Better Gym regularly in a bid to improve their mental and physical wellbeing.”
Gareth Kirk, Regional Director of GLL continued: “We are thrilled to partner with Belfast Chamber to help spread the message that we are a city-wide business ready to welcome new and existing members to improve their mental and physical wellbeing.
“Regular physical activity, whether in our gyms or swimming pools, can not only help in the fight against Covid-19 by strengthening our immune system but it can reduce high blood pressure, help manage weight and reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and various cancers – all conditions that can increase susceptibility to COVID-19.
“It also improves bone and muscle strength and increases balance, flexibility and fitness and improve productivity and performance.
“Being active is also good for our mental health – reducing the risk of depression, cognitive decline and delay the onset of dementia – and improve overall feelings.
“We have a pay-as-you-go option meaning we offer affordability and accessibility for people working and visiting the city without any big monthly outgoings.
Gareth concluded: “I encourage as many people as possible to avail of this complimentary pass to work out or swim at any of our leisure facilities across the city.
