The city of Belfast is a member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities and our vison is that Belfast will be a city where older people live life to the full. A key element of the new Age-friendly Belfast Plan 2018-2021 is to improve employment opportunities for people as they grow older and to recognise good practice in helping people stay longer in the work force. Recruiting and retaining older workers will benefit your business. Many businesses are recognising that the workforce is changing and a good mix of older and younger employees can make a high performing team. An age diverse workforce will also reflect an age diverse customer base. Retaining older workers will also benefit your staff and almost half of workers in Northern Ireland expect to work beyond 65 to afford their retirement. We are delighted to sponsor the Age-friendly Business Award as part of the 2019 Belfast Business Awards and this year the award will celebrate businesses who support an age diverse workforce, have opportunities for upskilling or in-work training for people in mid to older age and provide opportunities for flexible working.
