Twinkling lights, beautiful baubles and scenes of crisp white snow – Belfast city centre will come to life in the coming days as shops create winter wonderland window displays.

The city’s two most prominent business organisations, Belfast Chamber of Trade & Commerce and Belfast City Centre Management, have joined up to launch the Christmas Window Dressing Competition – which this year is open to both independent and multiple stores, with two separate awards being allocated.

Previous years have seen fantastic festive scenes including singing Santa and dancing snowmen. This year Andrew Irvine, Belfast City Centre Manager, BCCM and Hugh Black, President, BCTC hope that the competition will help shops to get into the Christmas spirit and boost footfall to the city.

Andrew Irvine said: “Our annual window dressing competition is a great fun way of engaging with the many of the retailers in Belfast, and rewarding their hard work and creativity – and of course encouraging to them to sprinkle a little magic into our shop fronts this Christmas.

“Each year we see fantastic festive creations and a real effort which adds a festive feel to our high street, with many visitors coming in to see the window displays alone. By extending the competition beyond just the independent stores to the multiple stores, we hope that the city will be even more magical than in previous years.”

Hugh Black, President, Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce continued, “We encourage every single store to get behind the competition and to really put the extra effort in in a bid to create a real festive, fun feel in the City Centre, which will attract more shoppers to our city. This year we want the windows to be our best yet and will be judging the displays over the coming weeks.”

The window dressing awards in the two categories of Best Independent Store and Best Multiple Store will be judged in the coming weeks and will be announced in late December
