Small Business Saturday is on the Countdown

Preparations are well under way to make Small Business Saturday on 5 December 2015, encouraging consumers to swap their shop from a multinational to a small, local business – the biggest, and best to-date.

The event, supported by Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce, will give visitors the opportunity to sample Belfast’s lasting and unique shopping heritage and offering.

And one business, which is leading the way, is Suitor Menswear, who were identified by SBS as one of only 100 firms in the UK that reflected the diversity of Britain’s small businesses. The companies listed have been celebrating in the 100 days leading up to Small Business Saturday, each getting their own dedicated day.

The President of Belfast Chamber of Trade & Commerce recently celebrated Suitor Menswear’s special day, organised by SBS and held on Friday 6 November. The event, hosted by Belfast City Council, welcomed the Small Business Saturday bus tour, and was attended by a selection of Belfast independent shop owners who joined forces in support of the UK-wide initiative.

Speaking at the Small Business Saturday launch, Hugh Black, President, BCTC said: “Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce welcomes once again the Small Business Saturday campaign which supports independent businesses - the backbone of our local economy.

“We are also extremely proud that one of our members has been selected to represent the diversity of the UK’s small businesses ahead of Small Business Saturday this December.

“Suitor is one of dozens of fantastic independent shops in our city, which should be celebrated and rewarded for providing such a unique shopping offering.

“Visitors to Belfast are encouraged to get involved and support the initiative, by taking the time to visit the many stores which are located throughout the city.”

Chris Suitor, from Suitor Menswear Belfast which offers a leading, made-to-measure service is proud to represent Belfast as well as run the store which his father launched in 1992, he said: “Small Business Saturday is a fantastically worthwhile initiative, and one we are delighted to be a part of.

“The exposure that independent retail stores attain is invaluable, we for one have been delighted that our position as one of the leading menswear specialists has been put on the UK map.

Chris concluded: “We hope and encourage every single independent store to get behind the day and support us all in the independent sector.”
