Commenting on the award, Paul McMahon, President of Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce said: “Bill Wolsey is to be commended for how he and his team have made an enormous contribution to the tourism and hospitality landscape of Belfast.

“Bill is a visionary and calculated risk taker whose numerous ventures have paid off not only for the Beannchor Group, but for all of Belfast and beyond.

Paul concluded, “His numerous venues from The Merchant Hotel, to The National to The Dirty Onion, ooze class, style and are often ahead of their time in terms of their offering and design. Bill is an inspiring businessperson that Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce is delighted to recognise and call a member.”

Bill Wolsey originally from Ballysillan in North Belfast, opened his first bar, The Sportsman’s Inn in Bangor, over 35 years ago. Today, he is owner of 40 pubs, three hotels and five Little Wing restaurants.

Speaking about the award, Bill Wolsey, director of The Beannchor Group, said: “I am delighted to win an award which recognizes the amount of work, and investment and jobs The Beannchor Group has brought to the city.

“We are in the middle of an exciting time within the group, trade is good, particularly in The National and Dirty Onion, which are two of our most successful bars that we have ever opened.

Bill concluded: “Little Wing continues to grow from strength to strength as does The Merchant. We always strive to give people value for money, in comfortable surroundings, where they meet other people who are of a similar mind to themselves. That’s really the basis for any successful business in this industry.”
