Belfast Chamber of Trade & Commerce has today awarded the director of Belfast’s largest hotel group, Rajesh Rana, from Andras Hotels, with a highly coveted President’s Recognition Award.

The local businessman, who runs five Belfast city Hotels, has been recognised for ‘business leadership’ for his achievements which include the recent £1.5 million investment into the Ramada Plaza Hotel at Shaw’s Bridge.

Andras Hotels has invested in the local hotel market throughout the recession, including the construction of two new Ibis Hotels in 2009 and a renovation of the Holiday Inn Express in 2010. The Group  has further plans to expand their portfolio, with a £2.5m refurbishment and rebrand of the Days Hotel now underway and planning permission lodged for a new 179 bedroom £12million hotel in Belfast city Centre.

Paul McMahon, President, Belfast Chamber of Trade & Commerce said: “Andras Hotels is a prime example of a hotel group which is continually investing in Belfast, making our city a world-class destination for locals, business and tourists.

“Rajesh Rana has been an active member of the Chamber for a number of years, and in that time he has made a valuable contribution. His leadership and strategic direction knows no bounds, and I would like to personally congratulate him for the role he and his business play in Belfast and indeed the wider economy of Northern Ireland.”

Andras Hotels was established in 1981, by Lord Rana and despite operating at the height of the Troubles, the company has invested £13million in the past five years and have plans for further growth, which will continue to supply much-needed bedrooms for the Northern Ireland market.

Speaking about the award, Rajesh Rana, director of Andras Hotels said: “This is an exciting time for Andras Hotels, and indeed the wider economy of Northern Ireland. From the outset, we set our sights on becoming a leader in the hospitality industry in Belfast, which I am proud that we have achieved.

Rajesh concluded: “This city is a fantastic place to do business and the Chamber is an excellent organisation, and we are both honoured and appreciative to be accepting this award today.”

Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce’s monthly President’s Awards seek to identify a number of different businesses from their membership who have actively contributed to the economy of the country as a whole. The awards take into consideration a number of factors, from driving footfall to the city to marketing excellence to being an excellent ambassador to visitors.

Those eligible for the prestigious recognition, include all Chamber members from all business sectors in a range of categories, from customer service excellence, investment into the city, footfall driver through to marketing excellence.
