'We Make' Pop Up Shop Opens

An innovative Pop Up Shop has been launched in the city centre which will sell products from participants on the council’s Market Start Up Programme.

The ‘We Make’ shop in the Queen Street Studios building in Bedford Street was officially opened by Councillor Deirdre Hargey on Thursday evening and will stay open all this week until Sunday (9 March).

Among the many delights on offer at the shop will be hand-printed fabrics and home accessories; bridal jewellery; photographic prints; paper crafts; celebration cakes; savoury and sweet waffles and Sri Lankan food.

Councillor Hargey, chair of the council’s Development Committee which funds the Market Start Up Programme, said: “I’m delighted to launch this exciting new venture which will provide a taste of something new for shoppers in Belfast this weekThe Market Start Up Programme gives new businesses the chance to explore market trading and the Pop Up Shop as a practical option. It follows intensive workshops with successful traders and the creation of business plans for each. As a council, we are committed to supporting new entrepreneurs and I would urge locals and visitors alike to visit the We Make shop to show their support.

The vast majority of local business is made up of small traders so it is vital that we encourage as many as possible to seize the opportunity to create their own business to help us build an exciting, wide ranging and unique sector. Doing this we can boost our city, create jobs and improve our local shopping and trading environment,” she added.
